The prosecutor's office discontinued the proceedings regarding the tragedy on Lake Mikołajskie (Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship), where a four-year-old girl fell out of a motorboat and her mother and father rushed to help her. The girl, unlike her parents, was wearing a life jacket. Sailors pulled her out of the water. Parents drowned. The prosecutor's office did not find that anyone committed any crime here.
– The case was discontinued because we found no signs of a prohibited act. The parents jumped into the water to save their child – says Bogusława Pidsudko-Kaliszuk, head of the District Prosecutor's Office in Mrągowo.
They rushed to help their daughter. They were not wearing life jackets
A four-year-old girl wearing a life jacket fell out of a motorboat, which was not required to rent any license. Her mother and then her father jumped to help her. The child was pulled out of the water safe and sound by nearby sailors, but both of the child's parents drowned. Their bodies were recovered the next day from a depth of 11 meters.

– During the investigation, an expert was appointed to examine the technical condition of the motorboat. It turned out that it was in good condition and was equipped with the appropriate number of life jackets, a lifebuoy, etc. Witnesses testified that the boat had no contact with other boats, so there was no collision with another vessel – says Daniel, spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Olsztyn. Prosecutor's office: parental instinct kicked in
He adds that the parents had no injuries and the direct cause of death was drowning.
– They were not wearing life jackets, unlike the child who, fortunately, had a life jacket and it was well put on. The parental instinct kicked in. Even though both supposedly knew how to swim, they drowned in this stressful situation, the prosecutor notes.
