After reports about the deficiencies of eggs in grocery stores in the United States, in France they also begin to lack – said the daily “Le Monde” on Saturday. The reason is largely the panic effect that occurred when the network was circulated by photos of empty store racks in the USA, but also an epidemic of bird flu.
“The tension increased when the photos depicting empty shelves in the US and record prices (eggs) reached France,” described the causes of the crisis, the vice -chairman of the State Egg Promotion Committee (CNPO) Loic Coulombel. He added that this caused panic among consumers who instead of buying one pack, put two in the basket.
The diary pointed out that this is not the only reason for the lack of eggs. Although the epidemic of bird influenza did not affect the laying hens in Europe, as it happened overseas, it had an impact on the market and stocks of eggs. In addition, many consumers in the interests of the household budget in the era inflationit began to choose eggs more often as a cheap source of protein.
“The sale of eggs in wholesale amounts increased in 2024 by 4 percent, and in January and February this year – by another 4.6 percent” – explained the director of CNPO Alica Richard, cited by the daily. She pointed out that last year was not recorded in France growth in egg production, despite the fact that the demand for them increased significantly. “Le Monde” in a humorous way summed up that France, whose symbol is a rooster, ceased to be self -sufficient when it comes to egg production.
Golden time for poultry breeders
In France, a hundred eggs costs over 19.60 euros, which, as the daily noted, is a sensation, considering that they cost 15.30 euros in March last year. Poultry breeders now have their golden time – said the newspaper.
In the US, which in recent months have faced the lack of eggs on store shelves, the situation has improved. The problem was the state weight because the president's administration Donald Trump By joining work, she set a goal to reduce prices and restore the availability of this product.
Eggs are difficult to import because you need various types of approvals that guarantee compliance with veterinary standards that differ in each of the countries. That is why the daily warned that the Easter period could turn into real egg hunting.
