The man had 2.5 per mille of alcohol in his system, but he got into his car and drove off into the streets of Legnica (Lower Silesia Province). He damaged a road sign and destroyed concrete posts with his car. The drunk driver was caught by a retired police officer.
The incident took place on August 18 at around 10 p.m. in Legnica. First, the driver of a passenger car drove onto the intersection of Rzeczypospolitej Avenue and Piłsudskiego Street, where he damaged a road sign, then turned onto Wrocławska Street and drove into concrete posts on the sidewalk. Only then did he stop his car. The entire situation was witnessed by a retired police officer, who immediately called the services and apprehended the driver.
– A strong odor of alcohol was noticeable from the 21-year-old. A breathalyzer test conducted by police officers who arrived at the scene showed two and a half per mille of alcohol in his system – said Commissioner Jagoda Ekiert, spokeswoman for the City Police Headquarters in Legnica.

The man will be held accountable for his actions in court. For drunk driving, he faces up to three years in prison, a driving ban and a hefty fine.
