Three people have been charged in connection with the death of Liam Payne, former One Direction singer, the Argentine prosecutor's office reported on Thursday. He is an alleged drug supplier, a hotel employee in Buenos Aires and one person close to Payne. The services also provided more details from the investigation after the star's death.
Liam Payne, former member of One Directionwas found dead in mid-October outside the CasaSur Palermo hotel in the Argentine capital. As confirmed by the local police, the musician fell from the balcony on the third floor.
According to the Argentine prosecutor's office, the direct cause of death was numerous injuries and internal and external bleeding. The services have already ruled out the possible involvement of third parties and stated that everything indicates that Payne was alone in the room at the time of the incident. A “number of substances” were found in the star's room – alcohol and drugs. Furniture and other items in the hotel room were damaged.
Three people face charges
On Thursday, the Argentine prosecutor's office reported that traces of alcohol, cocaine and a prescription antidepressant were found in the musician's body. At the time of the accident, the musician could have been semiconscious or completely unconscious.
It was also reported that three people were charged in connection with his death. He is an alleged drug supplier, a hotel employee and someone close to Payne. All of them were accused of participating in the supply of drugs to the musician, and the last of these three people was additionally charged with “abandonment (of the musician), which resulted in death.”
Details of the investigation after the musician's death
The Spanish-language portal Clarin reported that “a person close to Payne” is a resident of Argentina Rogelio “Roger” Nores, an American businessman and friend of the victim, who served as his manager during the musician's stay in this country. According to the portal, for the above-mentioned “abandonment” in Argentina, he faces from 5 to 15 years in prison.
The media report that the services searched nine houses in Buenos Aires as part of the investigation into the musician's death. The prosecutor's office emphasized that during the investigation, several dozen witness statements and expert opinions were collected, over 800 hours of recordings from surveillance cameras were analyzed, as well as data from the deceased musician's phone, including a list of calls and messages.
The “Clarin” daily reported that on Wednesday, the coffin with the body of 31-year-old Payne was transported by plane from Argentina to Madrid, from where it was to be transported to London. She was picked up by the musician's father, Geoff Payne.
