The increase in the amount of the benefit from the alimony fund from PLN 500 to PLN 1,000 per month is assumed in the amendment to the Act on assistance to persons entitled to alimony, which was passed by the Sejm on Thursday. The amendment will now be considered by the Senate.
433 MPs voted for the amendment to the Act on assistance to persons entitled to alimony, five were against and two abstained.
Greater benefits
Earlier, the Sejm rejected the amendment PISwhich would introduce a requirement for annual adjustment of family income per person in the family entitling to a benefit from the alimony fund. Currently, this amount is subject to indexation every three years.
The government's proposal was considered in the Sejm together with the PiS project on this matter.
The amendment assumes an increase in the amount of the benefit from the alimony fund from PLN 500 to PLN 1,000 per month.. Benefits are available if the family income per person does not exceed PLN 1,209 net per month.
Currently, benefits from the maintenance fund are entitled to the amount of the agreed alimony, but not more than PLN 500 per month. Their maximum amount has been unchanged since the beginning of the Act on assistance to persons entitled to alimony, i.e. since 2008.
New regulations
The new regulations will apply to benefits from the alimony fund, to which you are entitled from October 1, 2024. This means payment of benefits to eligible persons with compensation from October 1 this year.
The benefit is available to an eligible person until he or she is 18 years old; when studying at school or university – until the age of 25. If you have a certificate of significant disability, you are entitled to the benefit indefinitely.
