Marcin Romanowski gave up. He complains about the state, but on the other hand he takes money – said Krzysztof Kwiatkowski, senator of the Civic Coalition, in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24, referring to Marcin Romanowski's stay in Hungary. Łukasz Schreiber from PiS admitted that he would not make such a decision as the former deputy minister of justice, but – in his opinion – in this situation we are dealing with “prosecution for political reasons”.
Former Deputy Minister of Justice, PiS MP Marcin Romanowski, who is a suspect in the investigation regarding the Justice Fund, received asylum in Hungary. Earlier that day, on December 19, the District Court in Warsaw announced the issuance of a European arrest warrant for this politician. The prosecutor's office is planning new charges brought against him.
Schreiber on Romanowski's decision: I wouldn't make such a decision
The case was commented on in “Fakty po Faktach” on TVN24 by Krzysztof Kwiatkowski, senator of the Civic Coalition, former Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General, and Łukasz Schreiber from PiS, former chairman of the Standing Committee of the Council of Ministers.
Schreiber, when asked how he assessed Romanowski's decision to apply for political asylum Hungarystated that “this is a decision that everyone has to make.” – I wouldn't do it, (…), and not everyone lives in a country where there can be serious doubts as to whether we are dealing – and we are in this case – with prosecution for political reasons – he said.
– Are we dealing with the possibility of a fair trial if the Prime Minister of the Polish government, firstly, says that he will not de facto respect the law, and secondly, if the Prime Minister says that everyone must be held accountable – he added. He also assessed that “the team that is in power today illegally took over the National Prosecutor's Office.”
Kwiatkowski about Romanowski: he complains about the state, but he takes money
Senator Kwiatkowski stated that “Marcin Romanowski ran away, drank, and gave a damn.” – When he was in Hungary, the court decision was already in force. Because he left there earlier, he didn't wait for the court's decision. He had an obligation to return. And the asylum decision was already made after the court's decision. In the criminal law dimension (it is – editor) a classic escape – he said.
– The man is responsible for embezzling over one hundred million zlotys. We have it in the reports of the Supreme Audit Office. We have it in the prosecutor's office documents, (…). Did he know he was committing a crime? He knew. We see it in subsequent recordings, where he and his colleagues instruct each other on how to clear the mailbox and how to respond to the prosecutor – the senator enumerated.
Kwiatkowski, commenting on Romanowski's stay in Hungary, said that “it's like a donut in butter” there. – He's so prudent, even… sick leave he sends it to the Sejm so that no one deducts his allowance and parliamentary salary. He complains about the state, but on the other hand he takes money, he added.
