– The decision regarding the application for arrest for Marcin Romanowski was made at the first possible date after the MP was presented with the charges on Tuesday – said Przemysław Nowak, spokesman for the National Prosecutor's Office, in “Tak jest” on TVN24. – In this case, we are not only concerned about unlawful obstruction of the proceedings, we also have confirmed cases of tampering – he emphasized.

The prosecutor submitted a request to the District Court for Warsaw-Mokotów in Warsaw to apply pre-trial detention for a period of three months against the suspect, Marcin Romanowski, the National Prosecutor's Office said. As reported, the need to apply pre-trial detention results from a justified fear of unlawful obstruction of the proceedings and, moreover, from a real threat of a severe penalty being imposed.

Przemysław Nowak, spokesman for the National Prosecutor's Office, spoke more about this case in the “Tak jest” program on TVN24.

– The decision (regarding the application for arrest – ed.) was made at the first possible date, i.e. after yesterday's activities of presenting charges – he said.

– It would be much better for these proceedings if the arrest was imposed in mid-July. The passage of time that occurred did not work in favor of this procedure. However, these proceedings are still ongoing and activities that may be unlawfully obstructed will continue to be performed. The prosecutor indicates these activities in the application, the application has 80 pages. We do not disclose all the cards and activities that we will carry out, we do not necessarily reveal our plans regarding the procedural activities – who we will listen to and so on – said the spokesman for the National Prosecutor's Office.

– In this case, we are not only concerned about unlawful obstruction of proceedings, we also have confirmed cases of tampering, persuading witnesses and suspects to give false testimony, hiding evidence or arranging for its destruction. This is definitely something more than usual, he emphasized.

Nowak: there is no specific deadline within which the court must deal with the application

Prosecutor Nowak also said that in this case there is no statutory regulation regarding the time the court has to consider the investigators' application. He added that theoretically this could happen within a few days, but it could also take months.

– If this date is not set in the near future, the prosecutor will certainly apply to the court, arguing that examining this application is also important for the good of these proceedings – he said.
