Mark Carney was sworn in to the prime minister of Canada on Friday. He replaced the outgoing Justin Trudeau. The Canadian public CBC broadcaster said that Carney will go on the first foreign trip to Great Britain and France next week. The new prime minister faces the decision to announce early elections.

Carney was sworn in by the Governor of Canada Mary Simon on Friday. The former head of the Central Bank of Canada is the 24th prime minister. Replaced Justin Trudeauwho announced its resignation at the beginning of January. On March 9, by a majority of 85.9 procwnt votes, Carney won the election of the new leader of the Liberal Party.

Immediately, during the election evening, he described the US, which began a customs war in March with Canada, as “a country that could no longer be trusted” and announced looking for new relations.

Carney will be in the face of a decision whether to organize accelerated elections. Canadian federal elections would take place in October, but when Trudeau announced on January 6 his resignation after choosing a new leader of the liberal party, he suspended the parliamentary work until March 24. This means that Carney as the prime minister of a minority government can look for support in opposition parties and start a new parliamentary session, announcing the government program and currently necessary laws. He can also announce accelerated elections.

According to Canadian media, there is a high probability that Carney will announce the accelerated elections that would take place at the turn of April and May.

Composition of the new Canada government

General Governor Mary Simon also sworn in a new government. For several days, Canadian media reported that it would be half as much as the government of Prime Minister Trudeau, which, apart from the prime minister himself, 36 ministers. In the government, there were 22 people outside the prime minister and many of them are the ministers of the previous government, although some changed departments.

Dominic Leblanc, who is the minister of finance from December, will be the international trade minister and the minister of intergovernmental relations. The current Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélan Jola, who will continue to perform this function, will also deal with international development. The Ministry of Finance will include the current Minister of Innovation Francois-Shippe Champagne.

In the government there are also Anita Anand, who took the position of the minister of innovation, science and industry, Bill Blair as the Minister of Defense. Jonathan Wilkinson will remain the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Steven Guilbeault passed from the position of the Minister of the Minister of the Minister of Culture and Canadian identity. And the former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Christia Freeland, who was one of the three most important competitors of Carney in the election of the new Liberal Party leader, returned to the government after the departure of Trudeau in December last year and takes the position of the minister of internal transport and trade.
