Organized crime organization InSight Crime describes Chiapas as “a major center for drug and migrant smuggling.” CBS News reports that the state has been at war between the Sinaloa and Jalisco Nueva Generacion drug cartels for two years, and hundreds of residents had to flee the violence to Guatemala. As ABC News reminds, Chiapas Attorney General Jorge Luis Llaven Abarca announced last week that a secret grave with charred bodies had also been found in the town of Emiliano Zapata, which is located near La Concordia. No more details were provided at that time due to the poor condition of the bodies making their identification impossible.
