Already over three thousand people have died in Mjanma – a former Burma – after a catastrophic earthquake. Such information is provided by local authorities, but expert predictions say that even thousands of victims could consume the cataclysm. Emergency and search actions are underway and lively people are still able to pull out from under the debris. The military junta ruling the country finally succumbed to pressure and announced that she would stop fighting with pro -democratic forces so as not to hinder help.

Local reports suggest that there may be much more victims than the authorities officially state. Tens of thousands of people could die.

International aid flows into Mjamna – among others sent by the European Commission – because the conditions are tragic. Not only because there was an epicenter of the earthquake. The country – even before the cataclysm – was devastated by many years of ethnic and religious conflicts.
– The time starts here. Now, when I talk to you, we have 35 degrees Celsius here, and there is a lack of drinking water and food. Dozens of people are in temporary shelters. This is a crisis in crisis – says Elena Vuolo from the Office of the World Health Organization in Mjanma.
Fire suspension
For four years, Mjanma has been governed by a military junta and in the country there is basically a civil war, because the resistance is put in prodemocratic ethnic minorities. The world appealed to the rulers of generals to stop the fights, but Junta would not succumb to pressure. Only when the rebels announced a fire suspension so as not to hinder help to those in need. The authorities decided on a 20-day suspension of fights.
– Temporary fire suspension is announced in order to show compassion to the victims of the earthquake and to ensure an effective rescue operation – says the presenter of state television in Mjanm.
But state services are not able to cope with the situation. One of the men and his daughter passed through the bridge, which fell into track shocks. They fell into the river. Only he saved himself.
– I still feel as if she was with me, although I know he is already dead. I have to look for her on my own, because here the services do not carry out any action. I have to pay the equivalent of $ 50, and if they find my daughter's body, pay extra for $ 200. I can't afford it, but I have to do it for my daughter – says Tin, a Mandalay resident.
There are fears that the humanitarian situation will only deteriorate, because heavy rains come over Mjanma. If there are still people under these rubble, they will threaten them drowned, and floods can lead to an outbreak of an epidemic.
