Modernization of the dam on the border with Belarus for over PLN 125 million

The Ministry of the Interior announced on Sunday that the modernization of the so -called electronic barrier along the existing technical dam at the border with Belarus in the Podlasie Voivodeship has ended. The cost of modernizing the section, which is 206 kilometers long, amounted to over PLN 125 million.

The electronic barrier is a system of cameras and sensors that helps to monitor the border, works on 206 kilometers of the border line in the Podlasie Voivodeship. The monitoring center of this system is located at the headquarters of the Podlasie Border Guard Department in Bialystok.

Modernization of the system on the border

In the middle of last year Border signed a contract for the modernization of this system.

As reported on the platform x Of the Ministry of Interior and Administrationas part of these activities, an additional line of cameras was installed for observing the outer side of the steel fence on the border, LED lamps for illuminating the technical road, and additional camera points were created to protect water culverts. “In addition, a mechanism was used to use artificial intelligence to classify alarm from fiber optic detection cables,” the ministry said.

At the same time, an electronic barrier was created on the border rivers in Podlasie – Świsłocz and Istoczanka, which have not yet been covered by this type of monitoring, and the border services also on these rivers record attempts to cross the border illegally with Belarus to Poland.

The investment cost at 47 km of border is PLN 85.7 million. It included, among others Installation of over half a thousand poles and 1.3 thousand daily and thermal imaging cameras. This means that the entire section of the border with Belarus protected by the Podlasie SG branch is monitoring.

The electronic barrier is a complement to the border line in Podlasie built in 2022 on 186 km of the so -called Physical barriers (dams) with a height of 5.5 m. It was also strengthened by installing horizontal reinforcements (spans) and additional contents of concertin.

Attempts to cross the border

In 2024, the Podlasie SG recorded over 30,000 attempts to cross the border illegally. There were fewer of them in the second half of the year after the introduction of the buffer zone and in places where the border barrier was modernized. This year, after calming the situation in the winter, there is an increase in the number of attempts to cross the border illegally.

Since the beginning of the year, the Podlasie branch of the SG has recorded nearly 2.5 thousand. attempts to illegally cross the border from Belarus to Poland, of which from the beginning of March – over 1.9 thousand. attempts. For example, last Thursday it was 180 attempts, including on border rivers. Data from the weekend (Friday-Sunday) will be known on Monday.

He has been operating in the province since mid -June last year. Podlasie so -called The buffer zone, which was introduced on the basis of the Ministry of Interior and Administration. For the third time (from March 10 this year) it was extended for another 90 days, as well as extended and currently covers the length of the border over a section of 78.29 km in the Hajnów poviat and part of the Białystok poviat; It is about the area of ​​operation of the SG branches in Michałów, Narewka, Białowieża, Dubiczch Cerkiewne and Czereze.

At nearly 60 km of border, you must not stay in a belt 200 meters wide from the border line, over a section of over 15 kilometers located in the area of ​​nature reserves, the PAS is about 2 km wide, and on a section of nearly 3.8 km the width of the zone is about 4 km.

The Ministry of Interior and Administration in the extending regulation assessed that the “buffer zone works”, the number of attempts at illegally crossing the border by approx. 46 percent. compared to the same period from the introduction of the zone. According to the ministry, the buffer affects the safety of services on the border, and also limits the activity of smuggling groups.
