Modlin. Failure at the airport. Flights suspended for several hours

In connection with the failure of the meteorological observation system, all operations at the Airport in Modlin were suspended. The fault was removed after over five hours.

We received the first information about difficulties at the Warsaw-Modlin airport on contact24. According to the applicant, there was a failure of the flight guidance system. “Nothing lands, we do not know when we will fly out, we wait, no official information” – we read in the message to the Editorial Board of Kontakt24.

Meteorological observation system failure

Before 18 o'clock, the Warsaw-Modlin airport issued a message in this matter. “From 2:00 pm there was a failure of the Awos automatic meteorological observation system. Due to the lack of required meteorological data, necessary for safe air operations, all arrivals and departures were temporarily suspended” – it was informed.

Airport representatives appealed to travelers going to or from Modlin to follow information about their flights on an ongoing basis.

At 19.40 there was a message about the end of difficulties.

“At 19:30, works related to the failure of the automatic meteorological observation system Awos. The system has been fully restored to the operation and works correctly. All airport systems function properly. The Warsaw -Modlin airport returned to the routine operational mode” – said in the communication.

“Unceded situation”

As Jacek Kowalski, a representative of the Modlin airport, flights to the Greek island of Rhodes and Dublin will take place from Okęcie in an interview with TVN24 reporter. Passengers were taken by substituted buses. All other flights planned for today to Modlin will be implemented.

– As for the failure, we will be able to give a full answer about its cause, we will be able to give after a full report of our employees and services responsible for the website – said Jacek Kowalski.

– It is probably an unprecedented situation that both the basic and spare system have failed at one time. At first glance, it does not look like third parties, but rather the operation of a lively nature – added the airport representative.

In an interview with TVN24 reporter, passengers waiting for their flights complained about the chaos lasting several hours and lack of information from the airport services and the carrier.
