Grabiec was asked if this decision was agreed with the government. As he said, “the Chancellery of the President informed about such a intention.” – The president makes a decision in this matter, the Prime Minister gives countersignates. We saw no reason to question this decision in any way. Mourning has become a fact – he said. He added that “we expected this kind of gesture on the part of the president.”
– Today we are undoubtedly dealing with an important event for millions of Poles. We want to somehow respect these feelings and hence the decision of the Prime Minister to give countersignates – he explained.
Flags, programs, concerts, performances, matches. What can be on the day of national mourning
The head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister talked about what could not be done on Saturday in connection with national mourning. – As for the regulations, the Act on the emblem, hymns and national symbols (Act on the emblem, colors and hymn of the Republic of Poland and state seals – ed.) Specifies what national mourning is about. The most important order is to reduce state flags before state offices – he said.
As he said, there are also “some recommendation for concessionaires, television stations, for public television, to respect the feelings of those who participate in mourning that day.” But what it means is Grabiec – “the issue of interpretation”. – This is more a recommendation than a legal order – he noted.
– However, when it comes to other forms of cultural or sports activity, there are no strict legal prohibitions. It is a matter of sensitivity, sense of individual organizers – he continued. When asked if concerts could take place that day, he stated that “there is no obstacle formally, cultural events may take place.” He also assured that “there would be no sanctions” for organizing such an event.
Will the matches be canceled? – This is one hundred percent decision of sports relationships or individual leagues. Certainly not administration – he explained.
The prime minister will fly to the Vatican? The head of the office comments
Grabiec was also asked if Prime Minister Donald Tusk would fly to the funeral of the Holy Father to Vatican.
– In the next hours the Prime Minister will present his decision. Undoubtedly, a delegation in which the president participates in the Speaker of the Sejm, the Speaker of the Senate is already very worthy, I would say, representation in Rome – he replied.
He also assessed that “the very picture of this situation, who goes to Rome, to the Vatican, also shapes the opinions of the Prime Minister about this situation.” When asked what an opinion it is, he answered that “we'll find out tomorrow”.
