89 percent of Poles support Polish membership in NATO – according to the new CBOS survey. The studio notes that such high support for the North Atlantic Alliance persists in our country from the annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014. At the same time, the vast majority of respondents would like to create a common European army in the EU.
The CBOS study published on April 1 shows that 89 percent Poles declare support for Poland's membership in NATOand only 2 percent He is against him. 4 percent expressed indifference to the alliance. Others asked marked the answer “difficult to say / refuse to answer”. Support according to CBOS is primarily differentered by political views: the lowest support was declared by people with centr views (70 percent), while very high support is expressed by people with declared left and right -wing views (96 % and 95 %, respectively).
Support for NATO in Poland
As the survey noted, social support for NATO is at a very high level, of at least 79 percent, since 2014, i.e. the annexation of Crimea by Russia. An event that, according to CBOS, additionally strengthened the support for the North Atlantic Alliance, was the invasion of Russia at Ukraine in February 2022.

Can Poland count on allies?
Poles were also asked to see if Poland could be some involvement of NATO allies in the possible defense of our borders. 61 percent respondents expressed the opinion that yes, which is a decrease by 18 percentage points. compared to February 2024. According to CBOS, the stronger the support for Poland's membership in NATO, the stronger the certainty of respondents in the involvement of NATO allies in defending Polish borders. “Also among the opponents of Poland's membership in NATO and among respondents avoiding taking a position in this matter, more is convinced that at the moment Poland may be some of the involvement of allies in the possible defense of our borders than those who believe that there is no such certainty” – he said.

European army
CBOS also asked respondents about their opinion on the possible creation of joint armed forces by the European Union. 73 percent respondents were in favor of such an initiativeand 19 percent It was against it. 8 percent respondents have no opinion on this subject. The survey was conducted as part of the Mixed -Mode procedure from 6 to 16 March 2024 at a sample of 1047 people (including: 62.3 percent by the CAPI method, 23.6 % – Cati and 14.1 percent – CAWI).
