New law in the European Union already this year. USB-C chargers will be mandatory

The EU directive enters into force on December 28, 2024: All mobile phonestablets and cameras sold in the EU will have to be equipped with a USB Type-C charging port. Thanks to this, Europeans will be able to benefit from one charger for all devices electronic. In 2020, more than a third of consumers spent approximately 2.4 billion euro annually for additional chargers.

Care for the environment: Thanks to the new regulations, too charging speed must be the same using any compatible charger. Manufacturers will also have to offer new devices in sets with and without a charger. The European Union wants to limit e-waste in this way. It has been calculated that thrown away and unused chargers contribute to the accumulation of approx 11,000 tons of electronic waste per year.

What about laptops? The European Union also wants to put things in order laptop chargers. European Parliament already in 2022 decided on unification also these charging inputs. New regulations in case laptops however, they will only come into force in 2026.
