Cardinals gathered as a conclave chose the pope. It was American Robert Prevost. Thousands of faithful who gathered in St. Peter's Square are celebrating the choice of a new head of the church – Pope Leon XIV. The first comments appear after this choice. Report on tvn24.pl.

Conclavein which the successor was chosen Pope Francislasted from Wednesday. A record number of 133 electors took part in it, including four cardinals from Poland: Stanisław Ryłko, Kazimierz Nycz, Konrad Krajewski and Grzegorz Ryś.
On Thursday afternoon, the electors joined the next votes in the Sistine Chapel. The result was announced after 6pm with white smoke floating from the chimney on the roof of the chapel.

The first voting took place on Wednesday evening, but it did not bring the decision. In the second and third vote for the conclave on Thursday, the cardinals also did not choose the pope – after 11.50 we saw from the chimney on the roof of the chapel black smokemeaning no choice.
To choose from a new Holy Father, a majority of two -thirds of votes are needed – 89.
