North Korea carried out GPS jamming attacks on Friday and Saturday in the southwestern part of the country on the Yellow Sea, the Joint Chiefs of Staff in South Korea reported. Several ships and dozens of aircraft reported “some operational disruptions.”
“North Korea carried out GPS jamming provocations in Haeju and Kaesong yesterday and today (November 8-9),” said the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in Seoul. He added that the crews of several ships and dozens of civilian aircraft reported “some operational disruptions.”
The military in Seoul warned pilots and captains navigating in the border area of the danger, although it did not specify how North Korea interfered with GPS signals, nor did it specify their extent in detail.
“We call on North Korea to immediately stop GPS provocations and strongly warn that it will be responsible for any subsequent problems caused by them,” the statement said.

South Korea's Yonhap news agency recalls that from May 29 to June 2, North Korea carried out a series of GPS jamming attacks southwards from the western part of the border line. This happened shortly after Pyongyang began sending waste balloons over South Korea for the first time this year.

Since the beginning of last month, sporadic GPS jamming attempts have been detected in the area of the inter-Korean border, although their strength was lower than in May and June. The regime in Pyongyang has carried out similar provocations on various scales in recent years.
Relations between the two Korean states are currently assessed as the worst in decades. Pyongyang has recognized South Korea as an “enemy state” in its constitution and North Korea as a dictator Kim Jong Un he ordered “total isolation” from neighbors and preparations for war that “may break out at any moment.”
