The Northern Lights lit up the sky over Poland last night. We received photos of this unusual phenomenon on Kontakt 24. “It turned the sky pink above the horizon, and greenery also appeared,” wrote Reporter 24.
The Northern Lights appeared over Poland on the night from Wednesday to Thursday. Good weather conditions, allowing for the observation of this unusual phenomenon, prevailed in the north of the country.
“It's all because of the CME of July 28,” wrote Adam Hurcewicz from the blog “O kosmosie i astronautyce”. The aurora borealis visible last night was a consequence of the CME impact, or coronal mass ejection. A coronal mass ejection is a huge cloud of plasma with a high magnetic field intensity, ejected from the solar corona into interplanetary space.

Aurora Borealis – what is it and how is it created?
The aurora borealis is a light phenomenon that occurs mainly in the vicinity of the North and South Poles. The scientific name for the aurora borealis is aurora borealis (within the North Pole) and aurora australis (near the South Pole) – comes from the name of the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora.
The aurora is created when energized gas particles sent by the Sun hit the upper layer of the Earth's atmosphere at high speeds (up to 72 million kilometers per hour). The planet is protected from the “attack” by a magnetic field. It redirects the particles toward the North and South Poles, and the particles interact with gases in our atmosphere.
