A technical fault paralyzed the railway in Norway on Wednesday. The railway infrastructure operator in Norway, Bane Nor, announced that the GSM-R system failure has been repaired and trains are returning to the tracks. However, delays and cancellations on many routes may continue for many hours.

An error in the system that provides communication between trains and the traffic control center in Trondheim has caused chaos on the Norwegian railways.

Despite the organization of replacement transport by taxis, buses, and even airline tickets, it is estimated that tens of thousands of travelers had to change their plans.

Bane Nor has not yet provided a reason for Wednesday's outage. Interference by third parties has been initially ruled out.

The losses are currently impossible to assess

Carriers are unable to assess the losses caused by a failure that lasted all day.

– On the Oslo-Bergen route alone, over 1,700 passengers bought tickets for today's six connections. On shorter routes, the number of travelers who could not reach their destination is currently impossible to determine, said Kaja Rynning Moen, spokeswoman for the largest carrier in NorwayVy.
