Olsztyn. High bacterial concentration in warm water in an oncology hospital

– I can confirm that in the Hematology Department of the Ministry of Interior and Administration Hospital in Olsztyn it was found in an increase in Legionella bacteria in water. In connection with the situation, hot water access was closed in rooms where bacteria were detected and the hospital began repair – she said. – There was no need to evacuate the ward or closure, because after turning the water, there are other ways to secure its delivery to patients. The bacterium is spreading in splashing, i.e. through showers or aerosol, therefore cutting its inflow where the increase in the occurrence of Legionella bacteria has been found – she explained.

The duty officer added that after completing the repair work, the bacterial level will be re -examined in the ward and if it is not detected, the water in these rooms will be restored.

Legionella infection usually leads to harmless respiratory infections. Some infected people may develop legionellosis, i.e. a severe form of an infection that can lead to serious health consequences. It manifests itself through muscle and headache, fever, dry cough and breathing problems. It can also cause vomiting and diarrhea.
