The honorary benefit for people who are over 100 years old will be granted ex officio and will amount to over PLN 6.2 thousand. PLN gross per month – assumes the bill, which was supported by the Parliamentary Committee for Social Policy and Family on Wednesday.
The committee members supported the project unanimously. Earlier, editorial amendments were passed positively.
Deputy Minister of Family Sebastian Gajewski explained that the bill is intended to replace the current – non-statutory – mechanism for granting honorary benefits to people who are over 100 years old. The benefit is paid for life and is monthly pension supplement or pension.
The draft act on the honorary benefit for turning 100 years of age provides that the new regulations would apply from January 1, 2025.
Honorary service after changes
The deputy head of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy indicated that – in accordance with the government project – the amount of the benefit will be PLN 6,246.13 gross per month. The benefit is to be indexed annually, starting from March 1, 2025. The indexation is to take place in March, on the same principles as in the case of indexation of pensions and annuities.
In the case of persons who are not entitled to a pension or disability pension paid by the pension authorities, the right to an honorary benefit will be granted upon application. According to the project, people with Polish citizenship will be entitled to the benefit. Currently, there are over 6,000 in Poland. people who are over 100 years old.
Honorary benefit 2024
Currently, monthly honorary benefits are granted by the president of the Social Insurance Institution pursuant to the decision of the Prime Minister of 1972 and treated as the so-called benefits by way of exception.
For people who celebrated their 100th birthday after February 29 this year, the honorary benefit amounts to PLN 6,246.13 gross. As of February 2023, it was PLN 5,540.25. Once granted, the honorary benefit is not subject to indexation.
According to the project, people with Polish citizenship will be entitled to the benefit.
Currently, there are over 6,000 in Poland. people who are over 100 years old.
