Jasmine Paolini announced a few days ago that he was finishing cooperation with coach Renzo Furlan. The 29-year-old Italian has been working with a trainer for 10 years. The previous season was absolutely unique to them.
It started in February in Dubai, when Paolini won the WTA 1000 rank tournament for the first time in her career. In spring, Roland Garros also reached the final, losing only to Iga Świątek. A few weeks later she also checked in in the Wimbledon final, where Barbora Krejcikova turned out to be better than her.
In August, during the Olympic Games, Jasmine Paolini won gold medals in doubles. In November, in Malaga, Włoszki won the team games Billie Jean King Cup, defeating our tennis players in the semi -final. Paolini was a support of the representation, both in the single and in doubles.
Nobody expected it now
Such successes allowed the Italian to advance to the record fourth place in the WTA ranking. Renzo Furlan was chosen by the coach of the year in the WTA tour and it was an absolutely understood choice. They both had to work hard for years to wait for such great achievements.
As Sport.pl, we talk with the Italian tennis expert Marco Mazzoni, who tells how Jasmine Paolini's decision was made in his homeland. – I was very surprised by the moment of announcement of this decision, because Paolini will soon start this stage in the season, when he defends points for last year's great results, including in Paris and London (3000 points – note). Coping with this challenge without a trainer who led her to success seems even more difficult – says a journalist of the Livetennis.it portal.
The circumstances of the separation may be even more surprising because Paolini only a few days earlier reached the semi -finals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami. In the match for the final she did not have much chance with Aryna Sabalenko, a later winner of the event. Nevertheless, it was signs that the Italian form was growing. This season, Australian Open, in Dosze, Dubai and the fourth at Indian Wells, had previously reached the third round.
– However, it was in the air to feel that something was not working as before. Paolini always smiles and loves to play tennis, while for some time she has been more gloomy and tense. Perhaps it was a sign that something is wrong – says our interlocutor.

For now, we can rely only on presumption, because Paolini announced the breakup in the social media, and since then she has not participated in tournaments, did not give an interview or appeared at press conferences. Otherwise her former coach.
Furlan spoke on Sky Sports, stating that the cooperation after so many years ended as if naturally, there were no quarrels between them or similar stories. He said he was happy, that he could give so much Jasmine and proud of their common path – indicates Mazzoni.
The Italian journalist admits that the tennis environment in his country did not hide his surprise by the decision of Jasmine Paolini. The Tennis Magazine Italia service thundered: “Sensation! Who is the new coach?
At the moment, it is not known who will be the new coach Jasmine Paolini. The tennis player is currently preparing for performances on Mączka. Her next start is a tournament in Stuttgart from April 14. Next week, the Italian people do not appear in the qualifying rounds of Billie Jean King Cup, because due to the role of defenders of the title they are assured in the November finals in China.
– Paolini trains with the Italian national team, captain Tatiana Garbin and his doubles doubles Sara Errani. It is said that 37-year-old Errani, taking into account great experience, could become her trainer, but these are only speculation. Jasmine confirmed several times in interviews that Sara's presence helped improve her tennis, so maybe more than just a suggestion – says Mazzoni.
A similar solution is suggested by the Rai Sport channel, but the daily “La Repubblica”, citing the staffs of both tennis players, denies that Errani was to replace Furlan as coach Paolini.
And what next with Renzo Furlan? Before he started training Jasmine Paolini, he had the opportunity to cooperate with Francesca Schiavone and Simone Bolelli. – He said that during these years he followed Paolini everywhere, neglecting his family and private life. He should take a break – believes our interlocutor.
And he adds: “Nevertheless, taking into account his experience, it is easy to assume that he will soon receive offers from Italian tennis players. I would see him alongside the talented Luci Nardi, who is still far from using his potential.” 21-year-old Nardi is currently in 93th place in the ATP ranking.
In 2018, during the tournament in Sassuolo, 14-year-old Nardi became the youngest Italian tennis player in history who scored points for the ranking of men's tennis. Then he fought with injuries, he remains in the shade not only of the number one in the world of Jannik Sinner, but also Flavio Cobolli (45. ATP), Luciano Darderi (57) or Lorenzo Musenetti (16.)
In the case of Renzo Furlan, it is also worth noting that this is another coach in recent years, who stopped working in a women's tour after the season was chosen by the WTA trainer. It was similar, among others In the case of Tomasz Wiktorowski (2023), Piotr Sierzputowski (2020) – in both cases it concerned the relationship with Iga Świątek, David Witt (2022), when he trained Jessica Pegul or Sascha Bajina (2018) when he led Naomi Osaka. It looks like a curse.
