Pay raises for politicians. How much will the president, prime minister and ministers earn?

The Budget Act for 2025, which will soon be considered by MPs again, assumes an increase in the base amount for people holding managerial state positions. This means salary increases for the president, prime minister, ministers and parliamentarians.

The Senate has already completed work on the 2025 budget. However, amendments were submitted, and as a result the document was sent to the Sejm again.

The Act provides, among other things: 5% increase in the base amount regarding persons holding state managerial positions. In 2024, it amounted to PLN 1,789.42, from January it is expected to increase by almost PLN 90, to PLN 1,878.89.

A raise for the president

Due to the higher base amount, the president's earnings will increase, among other things. In the case of the head of state, the salary consists of: basic salary corresponding to 9.8 times the basic amount and a functional allowance corresponding to 4.2 times the basic amount.

This means that in 2024 the president's remuneration was PLN 25,051 gross, and in 2025 will increase to PLN 26,304 gross.

After the end of his term, the president can count on the so-called retirement presidential. He will then receive 75 percent. basic salary, i.e. approximately PLN 13,152 gross.

The earnings of the Prime Minister and Marshals are up

The prime minister's remuneration, just like the president's, consists of a basic salary and a functional allowance. In the case of the head of government, the base amount multipliers on the basis of which the remuneration is calculated are lower and amount to 8.68 and 2.8, respectively.

After the new budget law enters into force, the remuneration of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland will increase by slightly over PLN 1,000. The head of government will earn PLN 21,569 gross per month, compared to PLN 20,542 gross currently.

The Speakers of the Sejm and Senate can count on identical salaries.

How much will a minister earn?

Ministers are currently entitled to a salary (basic salary plus function allowance) of PLN 17,786 gross. Due to the higher base amount, the earnings of heads of ministries will increase by almost PLN 900 to PLN 18,676 gross.

So far, deputy ministers have earned PLN 16,033 gross per month. After the raise, their salary will increase to PLN 16,834 gross.

Pay raises for MPs

The remuneration of MPs consists of a salary constituting 80%. the amount of the undersecretary of state's remuneration (determined on the basis of the same base amount) and the parliamentary allowance at a flat rate of 25%. remuneration of the undersecretary of state.

Currently, MPs receive a salary of PLN 12,826 gross and a parliamentary allowance set at PLN 4,008 gross. The total is PLN 16,834 gross. This amount will soon increase by approximately PLN 800 to the level PLN 17,676 gross.

However, many MPs can earn more. The salary includes allowances in the amount of:

  • 20 percent remuneration for committee chairmen,
  • 15 percent remuneration for persons serving as deputy chairman of the committee,
  • 10 percent remuneration for chairmen of permanent subcommittees.

According to the regulations, in the event of overlapping entitlements to two or more allowances, they are paid monthly in a total amount not exceeding 35%. salary.

In addition, MPs are entitled to a lump sum to cover costs related to the operation of offices. The Sejm states on its website that the lump sum for running a parliamentary office is currently PLN 22,000 per month.
