Next August, the new president will speak in the Sejm. Currently, we not only don't know who it will be, but even who will run. Arleta Zalewska, a reporter of “Fakty” TVN, found out what the plans of the Civic Coalition, PiS and Szymon Hołownia are at the moment.

– I have said many times about my determination – replies the mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski (KO), when asked whether voters can hear today that he wants to run in the upcoming presidential elections and is prepared for it.

Unofficially, Rafał Trzaskowski is today a “sure thing” to be the candidate of the Civic Coalition in the presidential elections. The party authorities will officially announce the decision on December 7.

On October 16, in an interview for “Gazeta Wyborcza”, the leader of the Civic Coalition indicated that the candidate would be one of the six politicians who spoke at the convention on October 12. The following people spoke at the convention: Donald Tusk himself, the Mayor of Warsaw Rafał Trzaskowski, the Minister of Education Barbara Nowacka and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski, the Deputy Minister of Family Aleksandra Gajewska and the Minister for the European Union Adam Szłapka.

– I still believe that Rafał Trzaskowski should be our candidate – says Barbara Nowacka, Minister of Education.

– Every politician has a mace in his backpack – said Radosław Sikorski when asked whether he had any ambitions to be a candidate of the Civic Coalition in the upcoming presidential elections.

According to our unofficial information, the Prime Minister, in conversations with advisors and politicians from the Civic Coalition authorities, emphasized many times that the mayor of Warsaw has the best chance of winning in the second round.

– When traveling around Poland, I hear that for many people it is an obvious choice, but we still have to make a decision – informs Tomasz Siemoniak, Minister of Interior and Administration from the Civic Coalition.

Has Kaczyński found his dream candidate?

A month earlier, most likely on November 10, PiS will announce its decision. In this party, searching, interviewing and examining candidates in polls has been going on for months. The most frequently mentioned surnames were Bogucki, Bocheński, Morawiecki and Nawrocki.

– It depends on the results of sociological research – replies the president of Law and Justice, Jarosław Kaczyński, when asked what determines the choice of a candidate. In the latest poll for “Rzeczpospolita”, in which the president of the Institute of National Remembrance was indicated as the PiS candidate, Rafał Trzaskowski would receive the greatest support in the first round – over 34 percent of voters. Karol Nawrocki would get 22 percent and Hołownia – 10 percent of the votes.

What about Szymon Hołownia?

– We'll see – says Hołownia when asked whether he will run as a candidate himself.

The Marshal of the Sejm did not want to declare what decision he would make, but our unofficial conversations show that Hołownia plans to run. His goal is to take third place and exceed the minimum of 10 percent, so that the result in the second round depends on the votes of his voters.

“We need a president who is not ideologically inclined to stick a stick in the spokes of the government”TVN24

– Today, if I were to run, I am not entering the second round, says Szymon Hołownia. – The elections are in 7 months. This is an eternity in today's political situation. Everything can change, he adds.

– We need full mobilization of voters and convincing them, above all, how fundamental these elections are, how important it is who will be president and very, very hard work for many months, because nothing is certain, says Rafał Trzaskowski.

The leaders of the government coalition declare that in the second round they will all support one candidate.
