– The boy ignored the red light at the traffic light and ran straight into the path of an oncoming car. Fortunately, the teenager did not suffer serious injuries. It ended with bruises and a moment of terror experienced not only by the boy himself, but also by the driver of the minivan and other eyewitnesses to the event – described by senior sergeant. Magdalena Gąsowska from the District Police Headquarters in Piaseczno.

The entire incident was recorded by the participant's car camera. It shows that the driver is driving through the intersection on a green light. But the cars in the opposite lane are standing in a line. Suddenly two people emerge from between them. One manages to jump away at the last moment, the other is hit. – I hit a child! – the driver shouts.

– It turned out that the 10-year-old was under the care of his mother at that time, who herself said that there was nothing coming, so they could cross to the other side – said Gąsowska.

Police appeal. “Let's set a good example for them”

The police appealed to parents and guardians of children. “It's up to us, adults, to a large extent how our children will behave. Let's set a good example for them: pay attention to traffic lights, teach them how to safely cross the road. Every day, our attitude shapes their habits,” they recalled.

They noted that the vehicle, even at low speed, is unable to stop in one place. “The green light at the traffic light is a signal for the driver to continue driving. When he sees it, he has the right to expect that the pedestrian crossing will be free of unauthorized persons,” they said.

They also pointed out how important it is to comply with the regulations. “This rule applies to all road users, because road safety is a joint responsibility of both pedestrians and drivers of vehicles, bicycles and motorcycles,” they emphasized.
