Piast-Q quantum computer in Poznań
New The computer has already stayed installed at the Poznań Supercomput and Network Center (PCSS). Piast-Q will support research on quantum optimization, material science, chemistry and machine learning. “Thanks to the project, Poland joins the leaders of the development of quantum technologies in Europe” – emphasizes the Ministry of Digitization.
It works “based on the technology of deepened ions”
– today in Poznań we put into use Piast-Q quantum computer, operating on the basis of the technology of deepened ions. We implement the announcement from a few months ago and thus add an important element of the development of the technology of the future – said Deputy Minister of Dyfriusz Standerski. Computer Quantum will serve primarily scientists, industry representatives and the public sector from all over Europe. Thanks to this, new opportunities will be created in key research and economic areas, “and the European supercomputer infrastructure will be enriched with a completely new calculation dimension” – adds the ministry of digitization.
20 physical cubits
New Euroqcs-Poland computer is a digital quantum computer, based on imprisoned ions, offering over 20 physical cubits. Quantum computers use quantum mechanics for processing information. Unlike a classic bit, Kubit can exist simultaneously in a state of 0, 1 or in their superposition – they can be both one and zero at the same time. “Quantum computers have the potential to solve problems that are too complex for traditional computers” – adds the ministry. The EUROQCS-POLAND project is co-financed by the Ministry of Digitization, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and EuroHPC Ju. Total Cost investments are 12.28 million euro.
