PKP Intercity does not plan to introduce ticket prices – told the spokesman of the rail carrier Maciej Dutkiewicz.
“PKP Intercity is not working on new tariffs” – the spokesman told PAP in response to the question whether PKP Intercity is planning to increase ticket prices this year, and if so, how much and from when.
The company previously reported that ticket prices for journeys from PKP Intercity are dynamically shaped, which means that the ticket price is not dependent on the overtaking with which it is bought, and the availability of individual promotional tickets depends on the popularity of a given train. So sometimes it is enough to choose a train with a slightly less popular time to buy a much cheaper ticket.
An attempt to introduce a raise
Recently, PKP Intercity tried to introduce ticket prices in January 2023. Basic prices of disposable tickets in Pendolino trains At that time, they increased by 17.8 percent, on EIC trains by 17.4 percent, and in TLK/IC trains by an average of 11.8 percent. The announced increase in ticket prices was justified by growth electricity prices.
However, the company withdrew from its decision at the beginning of February 2023. PKP Intercity then explained that returning to previous prices is possible in connection with additional optimization activities and by increasing compensation under the agreement regarding the provision of public services (PSC, Public Service Contract). The then Minister of Infrastructure Andrzej Adamczyk He informed that in 2023 PKP Intercity would receive PLN 1 billion 290 million under the agreement and an additional PLN 575 million from the budget.
In 2024, PKP Intercity also did not raise ticket prices, after in November 2023 the government decided to increase 6.5 billion of compensation for the carrier in 2024–2030 for the implementation of the inter -voivodship railway passenger transport under the PSC agreement. In 2024 it was PLN 603 million.
Transport agreement
At the end of December 2020, the Ministry of Infrastructure signed a framework agreement with PKP Intercity for the provision of public services in rail transport within the inter -voivodship and international railway passenger transport. The value of the contract amounted to 21 billion 91 million 224 thousand. zloty.
The subject of this agreement, called PSC, is the provision by PKP Intercity public services in the interwarri -voivodship railway passenger transport in the years 2021-2030. The purpose of the contract is to increase the share of rail transport in the passenger transport market and further development of railways as the most ecological means of collective transport
