Poland will join the European Gigafabryk AI program – the Ministry of Digitization announced on Thursday. The last talks with partners are currently underway, and the formal application will be forwarded to the European Commission by June 20, 2025.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Digitization announced participation in the Gigafabryk AI creation project, i.e. the development centers of artificial intelligence.
– Poland will join the group of leaders of the development of artificial intelligence in the European Union. We are not afraid of ambitious investments, on the contrary, we treat AI as a strategic direction of state development – said deputy minister of digitization Dariusz Standerski.
– Gigafabryka AI in Poland is not only an impulse for our economy, but also a real chance to strengthen cooperation with partners in the region. It is a space for exchanging scientific knowledge, building international research teams and creating an ecosystem in which business, science and administration will work together, for the benefit of Central and Eastern Europe – he added.
Gigafabryka AI in Poznań
The ministry reminded in a statement that Poland is currently implementing a strategic investment, which is the Piast AI factory in Poznań. The new research and development center will focus on areas such as:
- space and robotics – development of AI algorithms supporting the automation and exploration of space,
- Science of health and life – the use of artificial intelligence in bioinformatics and medical diagnostics,
- sustainable development – The use of artificial intelligence in agriculture, energy and counteracting extreme weather phenomena.
“Gigafabrists of artificial intelligence are large -scale technology centers created with a view to developing and training new generation artificial intelligence models containing billions of parameters” – explained the ministry.
According to estimates of the Ministry of Digitization, the planned Gigafabryka will reach a scale of up to 30,000 graphic processors, which means an investment of around PLN 5 billion.
“The construction of a gigafabryka will not be one object, but a cluster of centers indicated in the artificial intelligence development policy, which is currently in social consultations. The involvement of public funds in the implementation of this undertaking is planned at the level of about PLN 2 billion in 2026-2029” – added.
As he indicates European Commission on your website, The Artificial Intelligence Factory is dynamic ecosystems that support innovation, cooperation and development in the field of AI. The commission recognized their creation as a priority and planned to launch the first factories in 2025. In December 2024, the EC chose the first seven locations, and in March this year – another six.
Factory of Artificial Intelligence in Poland
In Poland, the first factory of artificial intelligence is being built at the Cyfronet AGH Academic Center in Krakow, and the second called Piast-Ai is to be built in Poznań. The factory in Poznań, according to the ministry, is to focus on areas, including: health and life science, space and robotics and sustainable development.
In February this year. The head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced that the EU Investai Fund, with a budget of EUR 20 billion, will finance four gigafabrics of artificial intelligence in the EU. Gigafabrines are to combine powerful computing powers with low -emission data centers.
In April this year. The EC has announced a coordinated strategy on artificial intelligence – “AI Continent Action Plan. It focuses on five pillars: investments in infrastructure, data use, sectoral implementation, competence development and simplification of regulations. Its goal is to use the possibilities offered by artificial intelligence.
The plan assumes, among others Investments in computing infrastructure within the AI network and planned Gigafabryk. As part of the investment, new supercomputers are to be created, i.e. devices that have more computing power than current computers.
As indicated in AI's policy, the Polish artificial intelligence ecosystem is to be based on development 34 “supporting regional centers” AI (including in Częstochowa, Radom, Elbląg, Jelenia Góra, Lubin, Suwałki, Chełm, Biała Podlaska) and five “leading centers”, centered around Poznań, Kraków, Wrocław, Gdańsk and Warsaw. In the support centers, MC plans 12 investments by 2030, and in the leading – 10.
The AI policy project until 2030 was published by MC last week. His consultations will last until July 1.
