Polish faithful say goodbye to Pope Francis. “We are all shocked”

Although the disease of Pope Francis was long and severe, none of the faithful lost hope for his recovery. – We are all shocked by this message – says Mrs. Danuta, a resident of Szczecin.

Information about the death of the head of the Catholic Church came suddenly and many surprised – some during the road to the morning mass. – Throughout the period of illness of Pope Francis, I was very praying to recover, because the times are so heavy and cruel that he is very needed and was very much needed as a church shepherd – confesses Małgorzata, a resident of Greater Poland.

Pope Francis returned to his duties for a moment. He took part in the blessing of Urbi et Orbi. He was clearly weakened. – However, he went out to people, despite his illness, despite his weakness, pain. I struggle myself with various diseases, I have brain supports and admire the Holy Father. And so far I can't believe that he is not with us – says Małgorzata, a resident of Krakow.

He looked at the world through the eyes of the most vulnerable and poorest people. – In all areas he was very modest and it cannot be hidden that he went out to people, to everyone – notes one of the faithful. – He was always close to people, he tried to have a lot of contact, he also traveled around the world – adds another faithful.

Catholics around the world are mourning. – We prayed in the church for the soul of Saint Francis. Well, God called him to his father's house – says Mrs. Danuta, a resident of Szczecin. – God chose a date for the Holy Father, so unusual, right? He gave him yesterday at Easter, and today he said: Come, you are already going to me, you will not be tired anymore – says Małgorzata, a resident of Krakow.

Before many churches in Poland on Monday, prayers full of sadness after loss are held. – You should hope that he just hates, rests and is with our beloved Saint, John Paul II – says Mrs. Danuta.

Pope Francis visited Poland during World Youth Day in 2016. After the meetings in Łagiewniki and Jasna Góra, a special day came, because the third day of the Pope's visit was completely different from the others – silence, prayer, seriousness, reflection.

At the gate of the Auschwitz camp, he passed alone, on foot. Without crowds, no speeches, in a poignant silence. In Birkenau, he met, among others, representatives of the Righteous Among the Nations. – He came here with humility. He came here to find the shadows of those who were stolen with the greatest thing, which is life. No words are needed, this prayer was enough – one of the faithful commented on the visit of Pope Francis.

One and a half million pilgrims listened to the Pope in Krakow's Błonia. He said goodbye to Poland with these words: “I would like to give you a blessing and ask you not to forget to pray for me.”
