I believe that some contact between President Andrzej Duda and Donald Trump would be needed to explain Ukrainian issues and the situation in our region to him, said former president Aleksander Kwaśniewski in “Rozmowa Piaseckiego” on TVN24. He added that if he were Duda's advisor today, he would suggest him to “engage in the last mission, the last dance.”
Partial US election results i polls show that Donald Trump he won 26 states and already has 266 electoral votes. He needs 270 votes for the presidency. Kamala Harris has so far won 195 electoral votes. More media, including Reuters and Fox News, predict Trump's victory.
Kwaśniewski: we will know what kind of presidency this will be by his actions and nominations
Former president Aleksander Kwaśniewski he was asked in “Piasecki's Rozmowa” on TVN24 whether he could predict what Trump's presidency would be like. He replied that he couldn't because “Trump is an unpredictable man, as even his supporters and associates say.”
– This may mean that it will be a good presidency, but it may also mean that it will be an adventurous, irresponsible presidency that will bring us a lot of problems – he said.
– Only after the actions and nominations will we be able to know what kind of presidency and time for the world this will be – added the former president. He assessed that Trump's probable victory “is not the end of the world” and “there is no reason to panic and commit irreversible acts.”
Kwaśniewski: some contact with Trump was needed
Kwaśniewski was asked about the relationship between Donald Trump and the Polish president Andrzej Duda. When asked whether Duda could “shape Trump's policy towards our region”, he replied: – I don't know whether to shape or influence, but I'll try.
– Of course, time is short, because Trump will take office in January. I don't think he'll start accepting foreign guests very soon. I believe that until May, i.e. until the Polish elections – because then the Polish president still has a strong mandate – some contact with him (Trump – ed.) would be needed to explain Ukrainian issues to him, to show him the whole complexity – he said.
Kwaśniewski said that “if he were Andrzej Duda's advisor today, he would strongly advise him to get involved in something like this, this last mission, this last dance.” – Even if it has no real impact, it will be a fulfillment of an obligation towards Poland, towards Ukrainetowards our region – he said.
The former president emphasized that Trump “must get reliable information from people about the situation, so as not to make mistakes, not to give in to dreams, not to give in to naivety.”
