Questions for the National Electoral Commission, a dramatic entry by an Olympic athlete, the date of the presidential elections

Finance Minister Andrzej Domański will ask the National Electoral Commission about the interpretation of the resolution passed by the committee regarding money for PiS. Olympic medalist Agata Wróbel posted a dramatic entry on social media. Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia announced the date of the presidential elections. Here are five things to know on Thursday, January 9.

1. The minister asks the National Electoral Commission about the resolution

– Minister of Finance Andrzej Domański will ask the National Electoral Commission to interpret the resolution it adopted at the end of December regarding money for PiS – TVN24 learned unofficially, which was later confirmed by the head of the ministry in a statement.

Domański wrote about the “unprecedented” situation. The National Electoral Commission had previously adopted the financial report of the PiS committee, implementing the decision of the unrecognized chamber of the Supreme Court.

2. The drama of the Polish Olympic medalist

Agata Wróbel, who has been the showcase of Polish weightlifting for years, posted: dramatic entry on social media. The former weightlifter confessed that she lost her eyesight and has felt “excluded from society” ever since.

Wróbel has won gold at the World Championships (2022), European Championships (1999, 2002, 2004) and two Olympic medals: silver won in Sydney (2000) and bronze won in Athens (2004).

3. It's the presidential election date

Marshal of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia announced the date of the presidential elections. The first round will take place on May 18. The deadline for the second round is June 1. – I am very glad that this process is starting, because every election is a celebration of democracy – said Hołownia.

Hołownia emphasized that the preliminary electoral calendar is currently subject to consultations with the National Electoral Commission. – If National Electoral Commission accepts it, (…) then they will become part of my resolution – said the Marshal of the Sejm.

4. They boycott WOŚP, they want money

For several days, the media associated with PiS have been conducting an action against the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity and its head, at the same time appealing for donations for their own activities. It's not the first time someone is raising money for their business, but it's the first time they're calling for money to be donated to the business and not to sick children.

5. Fires in Los Angeles

Four separate fires are raging in the Los Angeles area. At least two people died in one of them, called Eaton. Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell said the situation was unprecedented. – This is a tragic time in the history of Los Angeles. We must be patient, we must unite and focus on saving lives, he emphasized.

The fight against the fire is hampered by gusty winds. In addition to the Palisades fire, which is the largest and broke out near the Pacific Palisades district, inhabited by, among others, by American celebrities, California firefighters are also fighting the Eaton, Hurst and Woodley fires.
