Radosław Sikorski in Madrid: There should be a date to which we negotiate with Russia suspension of weapons

Unfortunately, the fact that Ukraine agreed to the unconditional suspension of weapons did not meet with a positive answer on the other side. We believe that there should be a date to which we negotiate with Russia a suspension of weapons – said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski after meeting representatives of the big five and other countries where Russian aggression was talked.

Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski took part in Madrid on Monday in a meeting of representatives of the so -called Holy Friday – Germany, France, Poland, Spain and Italy – as well as Great Britain and Ukraine and the head of EU diplomacy and the EU Commissioner for Defense. The topics of the meeting were the help that European countries can offer Ukraine struggling with the Russian invasion, but also European security, transatlantic cooperation and defense.

After the talks, he reported at the conference that a joint message was agreed. – This is strong news and for the bravely fighting Ukraine, and for the aggressor and for our American allies – he assessed.

– Unfortunately, the fact that Ukraine agreed to the unconditional suspension of weapons did not meet with a positive answer on the other side. And as we know, even this limited suspension of weapons as to the types of attacked objects is unfortunately not observed – he said. – As politicians gathered here, we believe that there should be a date to which we negotiate with Russia Weapon suspension – he emphasized.

– Russia has already received some assurances on the American side. Ukraine, as I said, accepted the proposal to suspend unconditionally. We can't wait forever until Putin stops wanting to kill. If he even rejects the suspension of a weapon, not to mention a durable room, you will have to introduce even further sanctions and even more to increase our help for Ukraine – said Sikorski.

The first meeting in the so -called Holy Friday was organized on November 19, 2024 in Warsaw, and the next – on December 12 in Berlin. At the beginning of February 2025, representatives of the Holy Five countries also took part in the Paris summit.
