The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski, wrote a letter to members of the Civic Coalition, in which he appeals to vote for him in the primaries for the party's candidate in the presidential elections. He will face the mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski. Sikorski's website was also launched under the slogan “A president for difficult times. Because times have changed.”

Radosław Sikorski published a graphic on the X platform with the slogan “A president for difficult times” and opened a website where he shared a letter to KO members with an appeal to vote for him in the primary elections. He argues that “times have changed”, the presidential campaign will be dominated by security issues, and he has the “greatest chance” of winning against the candidate PIS.

The primary elections in which the mayor of Warsaw will compete will decide who will become the Civic Coalition's candidate for president. Rafał Trzaskowski and the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Radosław Sikorski. The primaries in KO will be decided on November 22. Then members of KO, i.e. Civic Platform, Nowoczesna, Greens and Polish Initiative, will be able to vote for the selected candidate.

“Times have changed since 2020. During my over twenty years of public service, the international situation has never been so uncertain. There is a war going on abroad, and in the spring of 2025, events may occur that will change the balance of power in the world and will have an impact in Poland “The issue of security will dominate the presidential campaign,” Sikorski emphasized in a letter addressed to KO members published on Friday.

“I am ready to fight day and night”

In his opinion, “in the realities of 2025, he has the best chance of winning the duel with the PiS candidate.” In the following paragraphs, he pointed out that times had changed so much that anti-PiS rhetoric was not enough to win. “I am ready to fight day and night to ensure our victory. I know what kind of battle I will face, I promise that I will not give up in the conditions of a brutal campaign,” Sikorski wrote.

In his opinion, PiS is desperate to maintain “the last foothold, which is the Presidential Palace.” As he pointed out, this is one of the reasons why KO needs a candidate who will be able to combine “both liberal and conservative sensitivities” in the second round.

Sikorski also stipulated that his possible victory would not end the settlements with the camp of the previous government. “The president must guard the constitution and the credibility of the state. Many people were persecuted during the PiS government, many people were violated. We saw how those who built an authoritarian state were promoted. I promise you that I will do everything possible to hold those responsible accountable and repair. Those who have fought for democracy over the last eight years must be appreciated and recognized. I promise that I will not pardon any person from the previous government convicted of crimes committed in the years 2005-2025,” Sikorski wrote.

Sikorski: together with Prime Minister Tusk, we will build Poland's diplomatic power

When it comes to election promises, Sikorski assured that he is able to build with the Prime Minister Donald Tusk “Poland's diplomatic power”. He also announced a “leap into modernity” in energy and transport issues. He also assured that he supported KO's demands regarding civil partnerships and safe abortion.

“Finally, I would like to comment on a topic raised by some journalists. My wife, Anne Applebaum, consciously and voluntarily chose Poland as her home. She accepted Polish citizenship and learned our difficult language. No one and nothing will take away her Polishness,” wrote the boss. diplomacy.
