Reports about the alleged desire to start an armed conflict in the country were reported by the Russian propaganda agency TASS, citing a statement press office of the Foreign Intelligence Service Russia (SVR).
It follows that Maia Sandu during a meeting with government representatives in Chisinau on energy security issues, she suggested the need for a military confrontation with Transnistria.
“The meeting ended with Sandu saying about necessity developing a plan for a military operation aimed at taking control of Transnistria and eliminating the Russian peacekeeping presence in the region,” it said.
“No one can guarantee that the president Moldova indeed, it will not try to start a real war in the region,” it added.
Moldova. Sandu's cabinet reacts to the Russians' accusations
Shortly after the publication of the statements of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, he commented on the matter President Mai Sandu's chief of staff, Adrian Băluțel.
In a statement published by local media, he stated, among other things, that reports of an alleged intention to invade Transnistria are “serious and dangerous disinformation”while emphasizing that the most effective way to ensure complete security in the country is withdrawal of Russian units from the disputed territory.
“We repeat, Chisinau remains firmly committed to a peaceful resolution of the conflict, without exception. An essential step to resolving the conflict is the complete and unconditional withdrawal of Russian troops illegally stationed on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Moldova,” he wrote.
According to Băluțel, the messages published by the Russian media are an attempt to cause a serious social crisis in Moldova, along with energy problems related to stopping the transit of Russian oil through the territory Ukrainy.
“Anti-Moldavian hysteria in Tiraspol in recent days, an attempt to blame the government in Chisinau for a possible energy and humanitarian crisis in the eastern regions of the country by Moscow and its supporters (…), and recently the dissemination of alleged “special information” by SVR about the Moldovan military operation in the region, confirm the hypothesis that Russian authorities and their “partners” are trying to destabilize the situation in the Republic of Moldova, spread fear and distrust among citizens and expand the area of uncertainty and confrontation in the region,” the statement reads.
