The Mayor of Warsaw, Rafał Trzaskowski, said on Tuesday that he would demand that the Ministry of Internal Affairs clarify the matter of the gas installation located in the depot of Miejskie Zakłady Autobusowe as soon as possible. It is used by a company that was on the sanctions list in connection with the war in Ukraine.

Rafał Trzaskowski was asked on Tuesday effects of Wirtualna Polska's journalistic investigation. The portal wrote that Miejskie Zakłady Autobusowe bought the Płochocińska bus depot from a private carrier. There is an installation for refueling buses with gas on its premises. It belongs to Omne Energia, previously owned by the Russian company Cryogas M&T Poland, which was included on the sanctions list. Omne Energia bought this company for PLN 3.

– I sent a letter to the Ministry of Interior and Administration to clarify this matter and I received such an assurance from the minister. I will put pressure on this matter and demand from the ministry that this matter be clearly explained and that there be no doubts. This is a matter for the services and I trust that the services will clarify it as soon as possible. I can only thank you for all the signals – replied the mayor of Warsaw.

He emphasized that the most important thing is that there is no Russian gas in Warsaw buses, and the matter should be clarified as soon as possible.

Siemoniak: there is no Russian gas in Warsaw buses

Also on Tuesday, the head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration Tomasz Siemoniak emphasized in “One on One” on TVN24that the actions of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Czesław Mroczek regarding the sanctions list “were absolutely correct here” because the company was removed from the sanctions list when it ceased to be Russian.

– There is an embargo on Russian gas. In December, an embargo on LPG was also introduced. There is no Russian gas on Warsaw buses. (…) And there is no threat or risk that Russian gas will appear in Warsaw buses or any other buses, because no one imports it – emphasized the head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration.

Siemoniak reminded that the Internal Security Agency will “investigate” the company's owners. – This entire action was intended to attack President Trzaskowski and suggest that Warsaw buses are filled with Russian gas. This is not true, he added.

Semeniuk-Patkowska: Russian influence is doing well

PiS politicians also commented on the matter on Tuesday. They declared on Tuesday that they demanded the presence of the management of the Ministry of Interior and Administration and the president of Warsaw at the meeting of the parliamentary committee on internal affairs.

– It was PO, Rafał Trzaskowski's party, that removed the Russian company from the sanctions list and enabled the supply of gas to Warsaw's infrastructure. Trzaskowski, as the deputy chairman of PO, actually took part in this procedure, and as the mayor of the city he says today that he did not know. This is a terrible prognosis for a person who wants to be the commander of the Polish armed forces, said PiS MP Jan Dziedziczak, referring to the fact that Trzaskowski is running in the presidential elections.

– We demand specific explanations from the representative office of the Ministry of Interior and Administration and Deputy Minister Czesław Mroczek, but also a reference to this candidate for President of Poland. We would like to hear specifically what this is all about and why Russian influence in Poland, especially in Warsaw, is doing well – added PiS MP Olga Semeniuk-Patkowska. She expressed hope that Trzaskowski would appear at Thursday's Warsaw Council.

Another PiS MP, Anna Gembicka, added that PiS wants to hear explanations from Trzaskowski and the Ministry of Interior and Administration. As she said, Mirosław Czekaj, who previously was treasurer of the capital city, sits on the supervisory board of Miejskie Zakłady Autobusowe. Warsaw, and is also the president of BGK. – Hence the question why he did not inform Rafał Trzaskowski, who – as he claims – did not know about this situation. It follows that this gentleman failed to fulfill his supervisory duties. This also makes us question how aware Trzaskowski is of what is happening in Warsaw, Gembicka alleged.

A company worth several hundred million sold for PLN 3

As established by the Wirtualna Polska portal, the owner of the gas installation in the depot purchased by MZA was the Russian company Cryogas M&T Poland, which was included on the sanctions list. The company, worth several hundred million zlotys, was sold to Omne Energia for PLN 3. According to the portal's findings, the new company wanted to be removed from the sanctions list, but the management of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration during the PiS government did not agree to it, claiming that the agreed price “has no economic justification” and the transaction is sham.

“In December, the new authorities of the ministry removed Omne Energia from the sanctions list. They considered the purchase of 100% of the shares for PLN 3 acceptable. At the same time, no one informs where the gas that is used to refuel some of Warsaw's buses comes from. However, it is known that the gas to the company created by The Russian installation business is delivered by a company tanker with a clumsily torn off logo,” WP journalists wrote.

MZA spokesman Adam Stawicki sent a statement in which he wrote that the article contains false information that MZA purchased a depot with a gas installation belonging to a company entered on the sanctions list.

“MZA purchased the property at ul. Płochocińska from Michalczewski sp. z o. o. MZA did not purchase a gas installation or any other infrastructure from the entity subject to sanctions,” he added. He emphasized that it is not true that MZA purchased gas from a company subject to sanctions. “MZA has strict procedures for verifying contractors. MZA does not and has not concluded contracts with entities subject to sanctions,” he noted.

“MZA concluded a gas supply contract with Omne Energia after the company was removed from the sanctions list. The gas supplied by Omne Energia comes from President Lech Kaczyński's gas terminal in Świnoujście,” Stawicki said.
