– We must do everything to ensure that Europe does not forget about Ukraine – emphasized MEP Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus (New Left) in “Fakty po Faktach”. Together with MEP Michał Kobosko (Poland 2050), she also commented on the German Chancellor's telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden's consent to the Ukrainians using long-range weapons provided by the US to strike deep inside Russia.

On the night from Saturday to Sunday, Russia attacked Ukraine using ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones. The missiles were fired by air forces and from navy ships in the Black Sea. – Drones and missiles targeting peaceful cities, sleeping civilians, critical infrastructure. This is a real answer from the war criminal Putin to all those who recently called him and visited him, commented the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andriy Sybiha.

MEP Joanna Scheuring-Wielgus (New Left) admitted that she hoped that in Ukraine “Nothing terrible will happen in the coming weeks.” She recalled that a thousand days had passed since full-scale Russian aggression and added that in the coming days she would hold a meeting with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, in Brussels.

– We must do everything to ensure that Europe does not forget about Ukraine – she emphasized. – Unfortunately, sometimes I hear, especially from our Western European partners, that we talk too much about Ukraine and help too much. And we, as all Polish delegations, across divisions, speak with one voice on this topic: we need to help Ukraine, we need to support Ukraine, she said. – And nothing in terms of resolving this terrible war can happen behind Ukraine's back. It cannot be that someone “arranges” peace behind the backs of Ukrainians, she stressed.

Kobosko about Scholz: trying to “shine”

On Friday, the chancellor German Olaf Scholz spoke by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin. German government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said that Scholz called on the Russian president to end the war and demanded the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory. Scholz also allegedly emphasized Germany's continued support for Ukraine.

MEP Michał Kobosko (Poland 2050) assessed the German Chancellor's conversation as “senseless”. – Scholz is the person who is ending his service as Chancellor of Germany. There are elections in February and – everything indicates this today – his party will no longer have a chance to form a future government, so at the end of his rule he is trying to shine in some way, in short. He makes this type of call, which actually gives Putin the feeling that he is in the game, but gives Scholz nothing, hence a very logical and clear criticism of such an action, he said.

He noted that shortly after this conversation, the Russians launched a massive attack on Ukraine. – The Russians have been methodically destroying Ukraine's energy infrastructure for many months with the intention that Ukrainians will be fed up with everything this winter when they will have no electricity – he said.

Biden's decision

American media reported on Sunday that the president USA Joe Biden gave Ukraine the green light to use US-supplied long-range weapons to strike deep inside Russia.

– One would like to say: finally – Kobosko said, reserving that “this is not a fantastic solution that will clearly tip the scales in this war.” – This decision is necessary, it should have been made many months ago, because Russia no longer has any reservations about its actions, he added.
