18-year-old Kyrylo H., suspected of attempting to murder 12-year-old Anastazja, who had been in juvenile detention for over a year, was arrested. This is what the Court of Appeal in Rzeszów decided at the request of the prosecutor's office. During this time, the prosecutor's office plans to complete the investigation and submit an indictment to the court. The boy admitted that he wanted to kill the 12-year-old. He will appear in court as an adult. He faces up to 25 years in prison.
Kyrylo H., then 16, attacked 12-year-old Anastasia on the street in November 2023 and stabbed her several times in the neck and head. The girl underwent several surgeries, but she is blind in one eye.
Both the injured party and the attacker are citizens Ukraine. According to unofficial information, they live in the same block in Rzeszów, but they did not know each other and Anastazja was an accidental victim.
An investigation into the attempted murder of a 12-year-old girl was initiated by the District Prosecutor's Office for the city of Rzeszów. Kyrylo H. was charged with attempting to murder Anastasia, causing her serious bodily harm and threatening another girl with death. He faces up to 25 years in prison.

In December 2023, by decision of the family court, he was placed in a shelter for minors under conditions of increased educational supervision.
As prosecutor Krzysztof Ciechanowski, spokesman for the District Prosecutor's Office in Rzeszów, to which the district prosecutor's office reports, informed on Wednesday, Kyryl H.'s behavior at the shelter was reprehensible and he caused huge problems. “The director of the facility informed the prosecutor's office five times about his aggressive behavior,” he added.
The teenager also had problems with the law in his home country, even before coming to Poland.

Prosecutor Ciechanowski said that Kyrylo H. was 18 years old. Due to this, and due to the threat of a high penalty and the teenager's reprehensible behavior in juvenile detention, the prosecutor's office applied to the Court of Appeal in Rzeszów to impose three months' arrest on him, a preventive measure applicable to adults.

The court accepted this request and placed the 18-year-old under arrest until the end of March. Proc. Ciechanowski added that by this date the leading prosecutor plans to complete the investigation and submit the indictment to court.
He confirmed that he wanted to kill the 12-year-old girl
12-year-old Anastasia was attacked in November 2023 around 17 on ul. Mikołajczyk in Rzeszów. The girl was going shopping alone to a nearby store, and the attacker allegedly came up behind her and stabbed her several times in the neck and head. The girl remained conscious and managed to call her mother, who soon arrived at the scene and called the emergency number.
The next day, the police arrested Kyryl H., then 16 years old. After his arrest, he was interrogated by the police. He refused to answer the question whether he admitted to committing the crimes and refused to provide explanations.
However, during the court hearing regarding his placement in a shelter for minors, he admitted to the charges against him. He confirmed that he wanted to kill the 12-year-old girl.
He was charged with attempted murder
The prosecutor's office submitted a request to the family court to initiate proceedings against the then minor H. and to place him in a shelter for minors. She also requested that the case be transferred to the prosecutor so that the teenager would be responsible for his actions as an adult.
The family court in Rzeszów first agreed to the prosecutor's request regarding placing the teenager in a shelter for minors. Shortly thereafter, the court accepted the prosecutor's request also in part regarding the fact that he should be held responsible for his actions as an adult. The court issued such consent after obtaining expert opinions.
The most serious charge brought against the 18-year-old concerns attempted murder. This act is punished in the same way as committing murder. The Penal Code provides for imprisonment for a term of not less than 8 years, or 25 years or life imprisonment.
However, if the accused committed this act before the age of 18, the highest penalty for murder, i.e. life imprisonment, is not imposed.
If Kyrylo H. was charged as a minor, he would be punished with being placed in a juvenile detention center until he was 21 years old.
