On the service road along the S7 route, between Płońsk and Ćwiklin (Masovian Voivodeship), there was a tragic accident in which an 81-year-old pedestrian died. The driver drove away because – as he later explained to the police – he was convinced that he had hit a wild animal.
The officer on duty at the Płońsk police station received information about the incident – the fatal hit of a pedestrian – on Monday, December 23, around 17.35.
At the scene of the accident, it turned out that an 81-year-old resident of Płońsk had been hit and killed. – Preliminary findings indicate that the man was traveling outside built-up areas in an unlit place, probably on the wrong side of the road and without reflective elements. The driver of the vehicle involved in the incident drove away, said Commissioner Kinga Drężek-Zmysłowska, spokeswoman for the Płońsk police.

“He didn't know he hit a person”
The police found a damaged Dacia car about a kilometer away from the accident site. There was also a tow truck near the car. – The officers determined that the Dacia was driven by an 18-year-old resident of the Płońsk district at the time of the accident. The young man was sober, blood was taken from him for testing. He explained that he was not aware that he had hit a person. He was convinced that he had hit a wild animal, so he did not stop, the policewoman noted.
At the scene of the accident, activities were carried out by Płońsk police officers under the supervision of the prosecutor and an expert in road accident reconstruction. – The expert will determine the exact course of the incident, who contributed to the incident – the pedestrian or the driver, and whether the version presented by the 18-year-old is probable. After receiving the expert opinion, a decision will be made regarding possible charges, the spokeswoman concluded.
