Sensation on the Bay of Puck. The first such view in Poland

In the BEKA nature reserve, an adult Canadian crane (Antigone Canadensis) was observed on the Bay of Puck. The bird was found by ornithologists Łukasz Janocha, Samuel Sosnowski, Antoni Karolak and Marek Biegański. This is the first confirmed case of this species in Poland.

At the beginning of the week, information about the observation of the Canadian crane for the first time appeared for the first time in Poland. This species was noticed at the Beka Nature Reserve, located on the Kashubian Coast on the Puck Bay. The crane was found by Łukasz Janocha, Samuel Sosnowski, Antoni Karolak and Marek Biegański.

The appearance of the Canadian crane caused a huge stir in the ornithological environment. One of the explorers shared the discovery in social media, who also described how incredible the experience was to see a given species for the first time in Poland.

– I had the impression that he was flying and flying, and in fact it lasted less than a minute – said Łukasz Janocha.

Natural habitats of the Canadian crane (Antigone Canadensis) There are northern regions of North America – Canada, Alaska, as well as north -east Siberia. This bird has gray plumage. It is characterized by a red cap on the head and white cheeks, feeds on parts of plants, insects, frogs and small mammals. As explained by Antoni Karolak, who participated in observations, representatives of this genre have not been observed until now 10-11 times in western Palearctica, a land covering Europe, North Africa and Eastern Asia.
