The incident occurred last Thursday. While patrolling Starowiejska Street in Siedlce, officers noticed a Volkswagen car, whose driver was moving in a way that could indicate his intoxication. After stopping the vehicle, it turned out that a 46-year-old resident of the Siedlce poviat sat behind the wheel.
Disturbing symptoms of the driver
– A breathalyzer study showed that he was sober, but the man's behavior aroused serious suspicions of officers. The man was lethargic, he had difficulty speaking logical, and he was clearly sweating and his hands were trembling – commissioner Ewelina Radomyska told the Siedlce police spokeswoman. – Policemen showed not only professionalism, but also empathy. They noticed symptoms that could indicate a sudden drop in sugar levels – she added.
In an interview with the driver, they determined that he was suffering from diabetes and most likely hypoglycaemia caused his condition. A medical emergency team was immediately called to the place, which confirmed a very low sugar level and a man's reduced heart rate. A decision was made to take him to the hospital.
