Vice-President of the Slovak Parliament, Andrej Danko, announced sending a delegation to Moscow. Parliamentarians were invited to the ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe.

The six-person delegation visiting the Russian capital includes two vice-chairmen of the National Council: the leader of the Slovak National Party (SNS), Andrej Danko, and one of Prime Minister Robert Fico's closest associates, Tibor Gaszpar.

On Monday, they met with the speaker of the State Duma (the lower house of Russia's parliament), Vyacheslav Volodin. Danko thanked for the invitation and conveyed “greetings to the Russian Federation from our citizens.” He stated that without their support in the last elections, Slovak parliamentarians “would not have been able to make this trip.”

“Dialogue can help develop mutual relations. We see great economic progress in the Russian Federation, we see progress in many areas, the development of food self-sufficiency,” Danko said in a short video published on the X platform.

Meeting with politicians subject to US sanctions

On Tuesday, the Slovak delegation will meet with those on the sanctions list USA Chairman of the Federation Council (upper house of the Russian parliament), Valentina Matviyenko.

Slovak media reported that Danko also had an appointment with the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs during his stay in Moscow Sergei Lavrov.

After the meeting, the head of the Slovak government said that the talks concerned gas supplies and negotiations about the end war in Ukraine. Fico was severely criticized by the opposition for this trip.
