Słupsk. He drove into a group of people, one of them died. Charges against the 20-year-old

According to the press spokesman of the District Prosecutor's Office in Słupsk, prosecutor Paweł Wnuk, the 20-year-old was interrogated on Monday. He was charged with three counts: causing a fatal accident while under the influence of alcohol and drugs, driving a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and possessing marijuana.

The suspect partially confessed to two charges. – He confirms that he caused the accident and that he was under the influence of alcohol. He denies that he was under the influence of marijuana, the prosecutor said.

However, he admitted to possessing drugs. During interrogation, he stated that they were for his own use. – The man expressed remorse. He said he wanted to turn back time and was sorry. He assured that he wanted to apologize to the injured family, the prosecutor said.

He added that the suspect's explanation shows that in 2022, he was subject to proceedings for possession of marijuana.

– He was then submitted to the court for conditional discontinuance of criminal proceedings and the court discontinued the proceedings – the prosecutor said.

He said that on Monday, after interrogating and charging the 20-year-old with charges, the prosecutor submitted a request to the court to apply pre-trial detention to him for three months.

The accident occurred on the night from Saturday to Sunday on Nad Śluzami Street in Słupsk. The officers determined that a 20-year-old driver of a BMW passenger car on a curve in the road lost control of the vehicle and hit the barriers separating the road from the sidewalk. The car overturned, hitting six people walking on the sidewalk. A 24-year-old man died on the spot. The remaining five people were taken to hospitals – 2 to Lębork and 3 to Słupsk.

Two injured people are staying at the facility in Słupsk. A 23-year-old man is in a stable condition and a 23-year-old woman is in a serious condition. They both have facial injuries. One person left the hospital and did not require hospitalization.

On Monday, the Territorial Defense Forces announced on social media that Private Szymon, a soldier of the 731st Light Infantry Company in Słupsk, died in the accident.

“His premature loss is a huge blow to the entire community of the 7th Pomeranian Territorial Defense Brigade and WOT,” it was written.

In the entry, the soldiers expressed their sincerest condolences to his family, loved ones and those who served with him.
