On Sunday morning in Mocejon, near the city of Toledo in central Spain, an 11-year-old boy was attacked while playing football on one of the local pitches. The attacker fatally wounded him with a sharp object, local media reported. A manhunt is underway for the perpetrator.
The suspect, according to local media reports, is a young man of about 18 years of age who fled the scene after the attack. Several police patrols are looking for him, and a helicopter has also been deployed.
According to Spanish media, Mocejon – a town of about five thousand inhabitants – is to declare three days of official mourning.
Milagros Tolon, representative of the Spanish government in the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha, said that the Civil Guard is also carrying out a large-scale operation to find and arrest the perpetrator.
Emiliano Garcia-Page, president of the Castile-La Mancha community, said he was shocked by the events in Mocejon and hoped the perpetrator would soon be found. “These situations are unacceptable and must be punished justly,” he added.
