On Wednesday, Iga Świątek announced a very unpleasant decision for Polish fans. – I will not play in the Billie Jean King Cup elimination tournament, which will take place in Radom – she wrote on Instagram. This means that in the competitions that will take place between April 10 and 12 at the Radom Sports Center, Polish women will have to deal with their leader. The task will be extremely difficult, because they will face Ukrainians and Swiss, and only one of the teams will win the promotion. The behavior of Świątek has already met with a number of comments.
Wolfke reacts to the decision of Świątek. “Has more minuses”
Some understand them, others come more critically. “This is weak. He has everything in place, and the next tournament is very close, not at the other end of the world. You imagine that Lewandowski does not come to the grouping, because he has to focus on himself?” – Jakub Seweryn from Sport.pl wrote on the platform x. Eurosport commentator Tomasz Wolfke also referred to the decision of Świątek.
Expert in an interview with “Przegląd Sportowy” He was much more forgiving for a 23-year-old. – This decision has general more minuses. From the point of view, Iga is certainly justified and you have to respect it if he wants to focus on an individual career. She has in a moment over 4,000 points to defend on earth courts, and the tournament in Radom is played in the hall, so there would be problems with switching and good preparation for the earth season – he explained.
It can be a disaster for Polish tennis. The expert alerts: “Without Christmas we can …”
Although Świątek sworn that playing in the national team was a huge pride for her, this time she put her own career first. “Now the time has come for more balance, focus on ourselves and our trainings” – we could read in her post. – Her translation is very sensible, there is no clinging to him. She has a little worse results than she got used to us and probably herself too. However, they are still not that dramatic. This is definitely a reason to focus more on yourself than on the national team – Wolfke referred.
The commentator, however, drew attention to the losses that the tournament itself and the Polish Tennis Association will bear due to the resignation of Christmas. It is mainly about financial, marketing issues and supporters' interest. However, this is not the end. Wolfke even hopes a script in which Polish women will not qualify for the final tournament. – Unfortunately, without Christmas, we can not win this qualification tournament. Switzerland and Ukraine will come in the strongest compositions, so Magda herself (Linette – editor's note) does not necessarily have to pull it – he explained.
Poland in Radom will be represented by Magda Linette, Maja Chwalińska, Katarzyna Kawa and Martyna Kubka. Magdalena Fręch, who suffered a wrist injury, also withdrew from the tournament.
