After almost 10 years of break, on November 26, the PAP Award was again awarded. Ryszard Kapuściński. It was the sixth edition of the project, the aim of which is to distinguish the most reliable, objective and technically correct publications that meet the highest standards set by the icon of Polish reportage.
Finalists were selected in four categories: video, text, audio and photography.
Awards in the video category
In the video category, the winner was Ewa Galica from “Superwizjer”. She was awarded for her reportage “Putin's Circle. Secrets of Russian assets in Europe”.
Two years after Russia's attack on Ukraine and the introduction of sanctions on the richest Russian oligarchs, Ewa Galica decided to check whether they had actually lost their villas and yachts. In the report “Putin's Circle. Secrets of Russian assets in Europe”, the journalist talks to, among others, a Spanish prosecutor who has been prosecuting the Russian mafia for 20 years, risking his life, and is now conducting the most difficult case of his career.
The material also features American businessman Bill Browder, whom Putin expelled Russiaand his lawyer Sergei Magnitsky was murdered in a Russian prison. The head of the OCCRP team of journalists who found Russian assets worth almost $20 billion in Europe talks about his investigation. Ewa Galica, following the money taken out of Russia, reaches Tenerife, where she meets Russians involved in money laundering.
Ewa Galica is a screenwriter and journalist “Supervisor”. She is known, among others, as the author of the script and director of an award-winning film reportage produced for TVN in 2023 “Wagnerites. Putin's mercenaries”. In 2020, she co-produced we Italy documentary film “COVID-19. The world is in danger”. The report stayed awarded at the World Media Festival in Hamburg.

Awards in the photography category
Beata Zawrzel is the winner in the photo category. The jury honored her for the photo titled “Grzegorz Braun extinguished Hanukkah candles in the Sejm”, made on December 12, 2023.
This photo was taken by the photojournalist on December 12, 2023 in the evening, when Confederation MP Grzegorz Braun used a powder fire extinguisher to extinguish Hanukkah candleslit during a ceremony attended by members of the Jewish community in the Sejm. The politician described the Jewish holiday as “satanic”.
Beata Zawrzel cooperates with Agencja Fotograficzna Reporter and NurPhoto Agency. She is a finalist and winner of numerous photography competitions, including: Grand Press Photo (2017), Photojournalist of the Year (2021), Leica Street Photo (2022 and 2023). She was also honored with the Award of Erazm Ciołek. She has worked for the Associated Press, San Francisco Chronicle and Anadolu Agency. He has published in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Der Spigel, The Guardian and national media.
The winners in this category were also Daniel Frymark (“Death Valley in Chojnice”) and Aleksandra H. Kossowska (“Civil War in Sudan”).
Awards in the text category
The winner in the text category was Bartek Sabela. He received the award for the article “Land of Promise” published in “Pisma. Magazyn Opinii” in August.
In it, he presented the stories of ordinary people who die in the dispute over the shape of Polish and European migration policy.
Bartek Sabela is a traveler, photographer and reporter. He made his debut as an author of books in 2013 with the reportage “Maybe (the sea) will come back” by o Uzbekistan and the disappearing Aral Sea. He also wrote texts, among others: about the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, AlgeriaBhutan, Mauritania, Niger and Poland, among others for “Duży Format”, “Kontynenty” and “Podróże” magazines.
The other winners in this category are Katarzyna Kojzar (“Let's remove the black river from the Oder. Instructions for repairing rivers for the new government”, OKO.press) and Anna Pamuła (“You don't have to scream, just push. A good childbirth is still a lot of luck in Poland” , OKO.press).
Awards in the audio category
Adrian Bąk was the winner in the audio category. The award was given to him for the podcast “Rebellion. The Decisive Battle for Earth”, episode 1: “Invisible, inaudible”, made for Radio 357.
His award-winning broadcast “Invisible, Invisible” is the first episode of the series “Rebellion. The Decisive Battle for Earth”. It is a multi-episode audio expedition through various continents and a story about the people who are responsible for food production and their relationship to the land.
Adrian Bąk deals with international affairs on Radio 357. Previously he worked as a journalist, reporter and publisher, among others. “Report on the state of the world” on Polish Radio.
Apart from Bąk, the winners in the audio category were Adam Dąbrowski (“Battle of Downing Street”, Trójka. Polskie Radio) and Magdalena Skawińska and Urszula Żółtowska-Tomaszewska (“Po”, Polskie Radio – Program Three).
The award winners were selected by a jury chaired by the editor-in-chief of PAP, Wojciech Tumidalski. The honorary chairmen were Rene Maisner – Ryszard Kapuściński's daughter, and Mirosław Ikonowicz – a friend of the legend of Polish reportage, associated with PAP since 1953.
