Officers of the West Pomeranian National Tax Administration inspected a postal parcel from Great Britain. They found an Old Egyptian amulet, which doubts arose. The artifact was detained and directed for further research.
A postal shipment from Great Britain was sent to Szczecin customs clearance. A small, rectangular stone object was found inside. It was supposed to be an ancient Egyptian amulet.
Maciej Koniuszewski, spokesman for the Tax Administration Chamber in Szczecin, reported that the officers had doubts about the originality of the subject and the possibility of its import, so they directed to the expert of the Faculty of Archeology of the University of Warsaw. – The specialist issued an opinion confirming the originality of the artifact, which may be part of an ancient necklace. Therefore, there was a violation of community regulations regarding the introduction and import of cultural goods without permission from the country of origin – he explained.

The export of cultural goods and monuments from Great Britain requires a license due to their age and value. The license is required for export for permanent and temporarily. The provisions on the protection of monuments and care for them were also violated.
– The detained artifact requires further detailed expertise, which will be conducted during the proceedings conducted by the West Pomeranian Customs and Tax Office in Szczecin – said the spokesman.
