In an entry on the X website, the Marshal of the Sejm thanked for numerous and good consultations on the “rescue initiative” of the presidential elections. Szymon Hołownia emphasized that the elections must be decided at the ballot box.
Szymon Hołownia announced on Wednesday that in the coming days he will talk with the Prime Minister and the President about the draft bill, according to which all judges of the Supreme Court, except judges from the Chamber of Extraordinary Control, will decide on the validity of the president's election. He assessed that this solution would “save democracy”.
“Thank you very much for numerous good consultations on the rescue initiative regarding the presidential elections. I would like to thank Prime Minister Donald Tusk for his support,” Hołownia wrote on the X website on Wednesday evening.
The Marshal of the Sejm expressed his belief that it would be possible to ensure a safe and peaceful presidential election despite political divisions. “Elections must be decided at the ballot box,” he emphasized.
Tusk: I hope that Hołownia's mission will be a success
Prime Minister Tusk said on Wednesday afternoon at a press conference that he had already talked to Hołownia. – It seems that it is a valuable idea and a valuable initiative to introduce such a law incidentally. I hope that Marshal Hołownia will convince the president to do so Andrzej Duda – Tusk said, adding that he himself “is OK with this idea.”
– Who has the right and who does not have the right to say that the elections were held correctly? Everyone should be interested in ensuring that no legal disputes hinder us in conducting the presidential elections, said the head of government. – I hope that Mr. Hołownia's mission here will be successful. I support it, declared the Prime Minister.
National Electoral Commission adjourned Monday's deliberations on the election committee report PIS until the “systemic regulation by the constitutional authorities of the Republic of Poland” of the legal status of the Chamber of Extraordinary Control and Public Affairs of the Supreme Court and judges participating in the adjudication of this chamber.
Last week, this Chamber accepted PiS's complaint about the National Electoral Commission's rejection of the report of the party's electoral committee on the 2023 parliamentary elections. Pursuant to the Electoral Code, such a decision of the Supreme Court obliges the National Electoral Commission to accept the report. The status of the Chamber that made this decision is questioned, among others: by the current government and some members of the National Electoral Commission.
