A 26-year-old man will face trial for animal cruelty. Dirty, sick, malnourished and scared dogs were taken from his property. One could not be saved. The man faces up to 3 years in prison.

Police officers from the department for combating economic crime, in cooperation with employees of OTOZ Animals Tczew, took action to ensure that the man suspected of cruelty to animals did not escape responsibility.

The officers determined that the 26-year-old inherited a property with two dogs on it: a larger St. Bernard type dog and a small female wolf-type dog.

– During the inspection, it turned out that the animals were extremely emaciated and neglected. They had no access to water, and the conditions in which they were kept were dramatic. The dogs suffered from many diseases, such as seborrhea and fleas. The female dog had a large tumor the size of a grapefruit, and despite this, she gave birth to puppies, which were also taken away and placed under care – informed the Provincial Police Headquarters in GdaÅ„sk.

The dogs were taken under the care of specialists

The animals were taken to a shelter where they received veterinary care. Due to multiple metastases of cancer, the female dog could not be saved. The remaining dogs are still under the care of specialists and are recovering.

– The police secured the necessary documentation and questioned the owner of the property. Currently, proceedings are underway for animal cruelty. If the suspicions are confirmed, the man faces severe consequences – the police department emphasizes, reminding that according to the Animal Protection Act, animal cruelty is punishable by up to 3 years in prison.
