An apartment fire in Ząbki (Masovian Voivodeship) left the family of a paramedic and a nurse homeless. The fire started in the dressing room and quickly spread to other rooms. – We lost our life's work in 20 minutes – says Mr. Krzysztof. The burned apartment is unsuitable for use. Friends organized a collection for a family of doctors who are in a difficult situation.
The fire broke out after 8 p.m. on Saturday. – My wife and I went to the parcel locker, the children were watching a cartoon – recalls Krzysztof Kosyl. Shortly after, he received a phone call. – The children said that smoke was coming from the wardrobe, I immediately called my neighbor. When the woman went into the corridor, children with two dogs were already outside the apartment, shouting that it was on fire. – I ran over, tried to put out the fire myself, I used several large fire extinguishers, the fire was too big – says the man.
Six fire brigades were dispatched to fight the fire. No one was injured, but the apartment requires major renovation.
Krzysztof Kosyl has been working in the Warsaw emergency service for 20 years. Mr. Krzysztof's wife also worked for many years in the emergency teams of the capital and in the Prague Hospital. Currently, she helps as a nurse in a clinic in Sulejówek. Together they raise two children: a seven-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter.
Battery fire or lighting short circuit
– We lived in this place for over 10 years, and within 20 minutes we lost everything, from clothes to documents – says Krzystof Kosyl. Currently, the family lives with Mr. Krzysztof's sister near Mińsk Mazowiecki. – The children have not returned to school yet, we are under the care of psychologists – adds the man.
The apartment was insured. – There is a long way to the payment of compensation, we do not yet have full documentation from firefighters and police, we do not have estimated losses – says the rescuer.
Preliminary findings indicate that the cause of the fire could have been the battery of the vacuum cleaner located in the dressing room or a short circuit in the LED installation that illuminated the room.
They are asking for help, the collection has started
The Provincial Ambulance Station “Meditrans” appealed for help for fire victims via social media.
“The family is desperate because the holidays are coming and the loan for the apartment has to be repaid,” we read in the entry. “Krzysztof has been our paramedic for 20 years, so on his behalf we dare to ask everyone for help, because his family is in a catastrophic situation,” it added.
Friends of the injured family They started a fundraiser online. “Since they are left with nothing, they need our help – they wrote. Within four days, nearly 700 people donated money.
