Terrible accident during the super-G. A rescue helicopter arrived on site
Gino Caviezel, who had the first starting number, caught the pole halfway through the route. He immediately lost his balance and fell painfully to the ground, losing his right ski in the process. The slope was so steep that competitor he was unable to stop and fell uncontrollably from a height. He was obviously in enormous pain because he screamed loudly, clutching his knee.
After a while, medical help arrived on site, and then a rescue helicopter transported the 32-year-old, who was on a stretcher, to the hospital. The MeteoWeb portal emphasizes that the Swiss federation has not yet published any announcement topic his health condition.
This is not the first such event in recent days. During Friday's training, Cyprien Sarrazin and Pietro Zazzi experienced very dangerous falls. The next day they both underwent surgery: Zazzi – for a broken leg, and Sarrazin – for drainage of an intracranial hematoma. The French Ski Federation released an official statement shortly afterwards.
“Sarrazin underwent surgery last evening to decompress an intracranial hematoma. It was successful, but for now the player remains under anesthesia. We will provide more information soon,” we read.
Shortly after the incident, one of Sarrazin's colleagues, Nils Allegre, spoke out. – My opinion is clear – they cannot prepare the route. They have been preparing competitions for 40 years, but they do not know how to minimize the risk of dangerous accidents – he thundered, quoted by the Daily Mail. – Not everyone has to agree with this, because it is my deeply rooted theory, he added, noting that Italy does not deserve to host the 2026 Winter Olympics.
